An Experimental Investigation of the Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layer

The compressible turbulent boundary layer on a flat plate with air injection has been investigated experimentally. Boundary-layer developments were measured at Mach numbers of 2-5 and 3"5 for the case of zero injection and each of three different injection rates, with and without heat transfer. The free stream Reynolds numbers were 5 x 10 7 per meter for a Mach number of 2.5 and 4.7 x 10 7 per meter for a Mach number of 3-5. All the more interesting boundary-layer parameters like momentum thickness, displacement thickness, boundary-layer thickness, boundary-layer shape parameter and the skin-friction coefficient were determined from the measured profiles and are given in this Report.
